Scott A. Borthwick was born and raised in southern California, and handles cases throughout the region.  Clients range from Santa Barbara to San Diego, and from the Inland Empire to the Desert areas.  Southern California is his home turf.

He attended the University of California at San Diego for undergraduate studies and majored in Philosophy.  Scott graduated with honors in 1995.  It was at UCSD that he decided to pursue a career in law to become an advocate for legal rights and justice.

Scott was admitted to the University of California, Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1999. While at Hastings, Scott taught the Street Law Course for high school students in the San Francisco School District through the USF Law School.  Additionally, Scott was selected to do a semester long externship for the highly-respected United States District Court Judge Vaughn R. Walker in San Francisco while in law school.

After graduation from Hastings, Scott passed the California State Bar exam in June of 1999. After taking a year to travel in Asia, he was admitted to the California Bar in December 2000. His first position as an attorney was Deputy Public Defender for Stanislaus County in Modesto, California. He held this position for eighteen months, before deciding to relocate back to southern California to establish his private practice. While serving as a Public Defense Attorney, Scott successfully handled many criminal defense cases, including 20 jury trials.

Scott Borthwick established his professional law office in Santa Ana in 2001.  A high-profile case early in his career was the James Ochoa carjacking case [2005] which is described in the “News” section of this website.  As a result of extensive media coverage of this case, Scott was invited to be a guest lecturer at the USC School of Law in Los Angeles. See “Results” section of this website for further information.

The Law Office of Scott Borthwick is conveniently located near the Orange County Airport in the Irvine Business Complex.
